Antoon De Baets (1955-) worked for Amnesty
International's former Publications Bureau in Costa Rica (1980-82),
obtained a PhD in history from the University of Ghent, Belgium (1988)
and is currently employed as a professor of contemporary history at
the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. He has published in
seven languages, mainly on historical popularization and censorship of
history. He was an author and member of the Board of Advisers of:
Derek Jones, ed., Censorship: A World Encyclopedia (4 volumes; London
and Chicago: Fitzroy Dearborn, 2001). He co-ordinates the Network of
Concerned Historians. His latest book is Censorship of Historical
Thought: A World Guide, 1945-2000, (Westport, CT/London: Greenwood
Press, 2002, xviii+695 p.).
